Can you believe we’re reaching the end of August? We still have lots planned for the remainder of the month before our students head back to school!

On Aug. 22, we are having yoga in the park from 10:00-11:00am at the Rotary Park. It is for all ages and skill levels so we hope to see everyone out there participating! This event is offered in partnership with Maggie’s Place and Amherst Schools Plus. After that, if you haven’t had enough exercise for the day, there will be a Zumba/dance class from 6:30-7:30pm at Beacon Street Park. If you can’t dance, that is no problem, we will teach you! After you’re done all that physical activity, you can head over to Victoria Square to enjoy an outdoor movie on the big screen. We are showing the movie Aladdin beginning around 8:30pm. Bring the whole family, some chairs and come relax in the park – we’ll bring the popcorn!

On Aug. 23we will be offering our second and final basketball camp of the summer. This event is for youth ages 7-12 and will be taking place from 9-11:30 am. If you know someone interested in participating, please email [email protected] to register or for more information.

Our final day of the lunchtime music in the park series is Wednesday, Aug.28 with performance by Michelle Leblanc. Take a trip down to Victoria Square between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm to relax in the park and enjoy your lunch break – and if you forget your lunch, you can always eat at the First Baptist Church BBQ.

Don’t forget about our Horse Drawn Carriage and Historic Amherst Walking Tours! The Horse Drawn Carriage Tour will continue until Oct. 24 and the Historic Amherst Walking Tour until Oct. 17. Don’t miss out on these great activities that can be enjoyed alone or in a group of people. Look at the events section of our Amherst Recreation Department Facebook page or our Town of Amherst Facebook page to find more information including prices and book your tour today!

Exciting news! Our stadium walking track will be opening back up on Aug. 26. We can’t wait to see all the walkers/runners back here enjoying our facility – with our freshly put-in ice. It will certainly feel nice of a hot summer day to come inside and be chilled off while getting in your steps for the day.
