Wainwright scores twice for Cougars in 5-5 tie with Tigers in Cross Border Women’s Hockey League action

SPRINGHILL, N.S. - In recent Cross-Border Women’s Recreational Hockey League action in Springhill the Cougars and Tigers played to a 5-5 draw.

The Tigers had clawed their way to a 5-2 lead in the third before the Cougars scorers came alive to tie things up.

Emily Wainwright started the late surge for the Cougars, scoring twice, and Alyson Pickard picked up two as well, while Dana Carr had the other.

Megan Dempsey had two assists and Krista Stewart and Shannon Hanna had assists as well.

Tigers goal scorers were Lynn MacKay, Jasmine Richard, Ericka Webb, Stacey Webb & Danielle Robichaud. Helpers to Lesley Belyea, Richard, Erika Webb and Robichaud.

Dueling goaltenders were Kat Aube & Patty Willigar.

Another game featured a rematch between the Cougars and Tigers.

This time the Tigers came out on top by a score of 6-4.

Jasmine Richard and Lynn MacKay had a couple of goals each and Danielle Robichaud and Lise LeBlanc also had one each.

A couple of assists to Richard and Jodie Wood. Ericka Webb, Lise LeBlanc, Andrea Faryniuk, Jolyane Lavalle and Lynn MacKay had single helpers.

Cougars goals were scored by Carole Gautreau and Phyllis Burbine and Emily Wainwright got the puck by Kat Aube twice. Single assists to Wanda Jewers v Krista Stewart, while Dana “Cookie Jar” Carr had two.

Cougars goalie was Patty Willigar.

A skills competition was held at the Amherst Stadium in December.

Carole Gautreau and Danielle Robichaud were the fastest two skaters out of the preliminary rounds, with Gautreau edging out Robichaud when they faced off for the finals.

The shooting accuracy was won by Robichaud who hit the middle target for the win.

She had battled against Nicole Sears, Crystal Goodwin, Karla Fulton and Jenna Gogan.

The challenge relay was won by the team of Danielle Robichaud, Andrea Faryniuk, Lori Kinnear, Lynn MacKay and Jenna Gogan.

Vince Byrne and Wayne MacKenzie handed out the hardware to the winners.
