AMHERST, N.S. – The Amherst Regional High School Vikings won their annual home tournament, the Tantramar Chevrolet Fall Classic.

They did it with a hard-fought 49-46 win over the JMA Armstrong High School Cougars, which play out of Salisbury, N.B.

“I think we started the tournament a little slow, we had to get our feet underneath us, but as the games went on we got more technical and stopped playing streetball,” Vikings player Olivia Scott said following the game. “And we have a new team, so and we figured out what everybody can do and where they’re going to be as the tournament progressed.

At one point the Vikings were up by 12 points but the Cougars tied the game 42-42 with 5:55 left in the game.

“We didn’t have our shots. They were making it tough for us to shoot,” Vikings player Keira Dyck said.

“We usually make a lot of three’s but they stopped falling,” added Vikings player Lauren Furlong.

Coach Charlie Chambers agrees.

“The Cougars played really well. What they do, they do really well,” Chambers said. “They made adjustments and our shots stopped dropping but we made some key shots to win the game.”
Chambers and the players thanked all the volunteers who helped make the tournament a success and thanked all the people who came out to watch the games.

“And we thank Tantramar Chev Buick GMC for their support as well,” Furlong said.
