Springhill defeats New Glasgow to win N.S. U13 AA championship

The Springhill Fencebusters won the Nova Scotia 13U AA Tier 1 championship in Dartmouth on Sept. 1 with a 9-4 win over New Glasgow. The Fencebusters are hosting the Atlantic championship tournament at Fencebuster Field from Sept. 13 to 15. Fencebusters hosting Atlantic championship tournament from Sept. 13 to 15

The Springhill Fencebusters will go into the Atlantic U13 AA Baseball Championship Tournament as Nova Scotia champions.

The Fencebusters scored three runs in the first inning, added two more in the third, three in the sixth and one in the seventh en route to a 9-4 win over New Glasgow to capture the Baseball Nova Scotia U13 AA Tier 1 championship on Sept. 1.

New Glasgow will join Springhill at the Atlantic championship tournament at Fencebusters Field from Sept. 13 to 15.

Mandel Nickerson tripled and singled in the game for Springhill while Trey Smith-Johnston singled and doubled and Phoenix Remington hit two singles.

Kyler Edwards, Nolan McNally, Keiran Sears, Gregor Millard, Reese MacDonald and Sawyer Harvey each singled once.

Reese MacDonald and Trey Smith-Johnston shared the pitching duties in the championship game, giving up six hits, walking one and striking out five.

In the semifinal, the Fencebusters jumped out to a 5-3 first inning lead and blew the game open with three in the sixth and four in the seventh to defeat the Truro Bearcats 17-7.

Trey Smith-Johnston doubled and homered for Springhill while Kieran Sears singled and homered and Sawyer Harvey singled three times.

Kyler Edwards and Phoenix Remington each singled twice, Nolan McNally doubled, Gregor Millard singled twice, Liam Brown tripled and doubled and Reese MacDonald and Mandel Nickerson each singled once.

Reese MacDonald, Phoenix Remington and Kieran Sears each pitched for the Fencebusters. They gave up eight hits, walked seven and struck out 14.

In their opener, the Fencebusters defeated Sydney 9-8 with Nolan McNally and Reese MacDonald each hitting a triple and a single, Trey Smith-Johnston singled and doubled, Kieran Sears tripled, Mandel Nickerson doubled, Gregor Millard singled twice and Phoenix Remington singled.

Reese MacDonald, Trey Smith-Johnston, Kieran Sears, Kyler Edwards, Mandel Nickerson and Phoenix Remington each pitched. They gave up seven hits, walked 14 and struck out 12.

In their second game, the Fencebusters scored five runs in the fifth en route to an 11-6 win over Kentville.

Trey Smith-Johnston hit a single, double and home run, Kieran Sears, Sawyer Harvey and Gregor Millard each hit two singles, and Kyler Edwards, Nolan McNally, Liam Brown and Mandel Nickerson each singled.

Kyler Edwards, Nolan McNally and Mandel Nickerson pitched for Springhill, giving up eight hits, walked four and struck out 10.

In their final round robin game, Springhill defeated Dartmouth 12-4 as Phoenix Remington doubled and homered, Kieran Sears singled and homered, Reese MacDonald homered and Sawyer Harvey doubled and singled.

Kyler Edwards singled three times, Nolan McNally singled twice, Trey Smith-Johnston doubled and Mandel Nickerson and Liam Brown each singled once.

Mandel Nickerson and Liam Brown pitched for Springhill. They gave up eight hits, walked four and struck out four.
