AMHERST - It was a day of best times for the Spartans swimmers who recently competed at a regional Nova Tech meet in Pictou.
“Competitive swimming is a sport that celebrates individual achievement in a team environment,” commented Matthews. “As these young swimmers gain experience, they become faster and stronger, and this is reflected in their results. Each personal best time is noted and rewarded.”
“Each Spartan recorded new personal bests with every swim. It’s quite an accomplishment to achieve 100 per cent best times at a swim meet.”
Competing at the Nova Tech entry level, Chelsea Elliott, Gemma Leslie-Dowe and Ava Taggart each recorded personal bests in the 100 IM (individual medley), 50 kick, 25 breaststroke and 25 butterfly events. Taggart was ranked in the top ten in the 25 fly and 25 breaststroke, while Elliott earned a top ten finish in the fly event.
Emmie Maddison earned her graduation times to move to the next level of the Nova Tech program as she swam to first place in the 100 IM, 25 breaststroke and 25 butterfly.
Reagan Bushen finished in the top ten in all of her Level 2 events. She placed first in the 20 freestyle, third in the 200 IM, 50 butterfly and 50 kick, and ninth in the 50 breaststroke.
The Spartans continue their training at the Cumberland Y in preparation for a competition in late February.
