GREENWOOD, N.S. - Two Cumberland Spartans swimmers tested the waters at the first age group meet of 2018 when they traveled to Greenwood to compete at a multi-day meet.
"The first competition in January can be challenging for the swimmers," commented coach Jan Matthews. "The Christmas holidays also means a break in training, which will impact any athlete's progress. It's a good time to rest, rejuvenate and refocus, but can also impact a swimmer's times in the pool."
Olivia Bacon recorded personal best times in the 200m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.
Lauren Millard maintained her times and standings while adding a new personal best in the 50m backstroke.
"They usually regain momentum during winter training,” said Matthews. “The important thing is to recognize that they are establishing a baseline following the fall, and to move forward from there."
The Spartans continue their training towards the Juniors competition in mid-February
