Romp to 102-78 win over South West Bulldogs in provincial final

AMHERST – The Amherst Sonics had five players score in double figures to claim the Basketball Nova Scotia Under-18 Boy’s AAA championship on April 15 in Halifax.

Sam Wade had 29 points to lead the way for the Sonics, who defeated the South West Bulldogs of Yarmouth 102-78 to capture the championship, while Aidan Devine had 27 points and Sam LeBlanc 18.

Patrick Liebmann had 15 points and Francis Bacon had 13 while Devine scored 21 points in the first half and earned player of the game honours.

Liebmann was the tournament’s most valuable player while Wade’s size and finish around the offensive rim were key for Sonics.

In their opener on Friday, April 13, the Sonics matched up against the Northside Junior Marauders from Sydney and came away with a 71-44 win.

Adam Blair of Pugwash was player of the game while Sam Wade had 24 points, Sam LeBlanc had 19 and Patrick Liebmann had 12.

On Saturday, April 14, the Sonics defeated the  Yarmouth Huskies 73-44 with Nabil Mohamad earning player of the game honours while hitting six three-pointers for 18 points. Sam Wade and Patrick Liebmann each had 13 points for Amherst.

In their final round robin game, the Sonics defeated the South West Bulldogs in a preview of Sunday’s final and came away with a 79-50 win.

Justin Milner earned player of the game honours while Sam Wade scored 24 points to lead the way offensively and Patrick Liebmann scored 16. Sam LeBlanc added 11 points.
