AMHERST, N.S. – 10-year-old Seth Robinson recently had a dream of his come true.
He represented Nova Scotia at the 2019 IKD Canada Cup Karate Championship on May 18 and 19 in Saskatoon. It was his first national event.
Robinson, a brown belt, competed against seven other athletes in the 11-and-Under Male Brown and Black Belt Division.
He finished with a silver medal in Kumite, which is sparring, and finished fourth in Kata, which is a series of practiced movements involving punches and kicks.
“I like sparring the best,” said Robinson before travelling to Saskatoon.
Joined on the trip by four other practitioners of karate from New Brunswick, Robinson was the youngest member of the Maritime IKD Team to make the trip to Saskatoon.
Also joining him on the trip was his dad Andy Robinson, and David and Janice Pyke, his instructors at the Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy, who were also judges at the Canada Cup.
Robinson is a Grade 5 student at Cumberland North Academy and earned his brown belt in June of 2018.
He will test for his black belt in June of 2020.
