AMHERST, N.S. — Phoenix Remington threw a no-hitter and the Carter’s Cresting Cubs broke open a close game late en route to a 5-1 win over the Lions in Amherst Little League A system action on July 8.

Remington didn’t walk any batters and struck out 14 Nolan McNally, Austin Dickie and Chayse Neves pitched for the Lions. They gave up five hits, walked eight and struck out 14.

Will Allen tripled and Remington singled and tripled for the Cubs with Connor Hunter adding a double and Ryan Wilson adding a single.

In the other game, the Y’s Guys scored runs in the first and fifth innings to defeat the Mixers 2-0.

Aiden McAloney gave up two hits to earn the win while giving up five walks and striking out 14. Mandel Nickerson gave up four hits for the Mixers while walking three and striking out 14.

Nick Atkinson tripled and McAloney singled and tripled for the Y’s Guys with Caleb Oulton adding a single. Austin Murray and Nickerson each doubled for the Mixers.

On July 4, the Cubs edged the Mixers 6-4 with Phoenix Remington earning the win over Mandel Nickerson of the Mixers. Remington gave up two hits, walked nine and struck out 16. Nickerson gave up four hits, walked four and struck out 15.

Remington singled and doubled for the Cubs with Jaxon Reynolds, Ryan Wilson and Will Allen each adding singles. Nickerson singled and doubled for the Mixers.

The Lions defeated the Y’s Guys 11-9 with Owen Wood, Austin Dickie and Nolan McNally sharing the pitching duties. They gave up seven hits, walked nine and struck out 11. Aaden McAloney pitched for the Y’s Guys. He gave up 15 hits, walked four and struck out five.

McNally singled and homered and Ryan Oderkirk singled twice and tripled for the Lions with Wood singling and doubling. Dickei singled twice. Braxton Bickford, Nathaniel Noiles, Chayse Neves and Dominick Coates each singled once.

McAloney doubled for the Y’s Guys while Caleb Oulton singled twice and Mason Sloan doubled. Nick Atkinson, Chase Livingston and Connor MacDougall each singled once.

The Y’s Guys handed the Cubs their first loss of the season on July 3 as Caleb Oulton threw a complete-game six-hitter in an 8-6 win.

Oulton gave up six walks and struck out two while hitting a single to help his cause. Jaxon Reynolds, Sawyer Harvey and Cohen Ingraham pitched for the Cubs. They gave up five hits, walked 11 and struck out eight.

Austin Cormier, Mason Sloan and Aaden McAloney each doubled for the Y’s Guys with Connor MacDougall adding a single. Harvey had two singles and a double for the Cubs with Phoenix Remington hitting a single and a double and Rylan Blakeney hitting a single.

In the other game that night, the Lions cruised to a 20-0 win over the Mixers.

Ethan Fraser gave up just one hit in the pitching win while striking out 13 and walking five. Evan Gray and Carter Lusby pitched for the Mixers. They gave up 17 hits, walked eight and struck out two.

Nolan McNally doubled twice and tripled for the Lions while Nathaniel Noiles tripled. Owen Wood hit four singles, Austin Dickie, Fraser, Ryan Oderkirk and Chayse Neves each singled twice and Dominick Coates singled once.

Carter Lusby had the lone Mixer hit, a single.
