Ramblers split games at MHL Showcase

Drop 5-2 decision to Miramichi on Tuesday following 3-0 win over Campbellton on Monday

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – A power play goal late in the game was a huge difference-maker as the Miramichi Timberwolves defeated the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers 5-2 in MHL Showcase action in New Glasgow on Tuesday night.

Eric Pelletier, scored just 18 seconds into a two-man advantage, as the Timberwolves built up a 4-2 lead before salting the game away later with his second of the contest.

“That loss is on me tonight,” LeBlanc said in a post on the Ramblers Facebook page following the game. “I cost us a penalty to make it five-on-three late in the game and they capitalized. Never seen that call before, but it’s on me to make my line changes faster. We all need to be better Friday, including myself.”

The Ramblers are in South Shore on Friday at 7 p.m. before coming home to face the Valley Wildcats on Saturday at the stadium at 7 p.m.

Former Rambler James Walker, acquired in the trade that sent Matt Green to Amherst, scored twice for the Timberwolves and Ben Sheffer also scored.

Max Boudreau and Caleb Rich scored for Amherst with Alex Lafreniere, Dayne Chasse and Jacob Myra adding assists.

Joel Goguen suffered the loss, stopping 19 of 23 shots while Stewart Bagnell was brilliant for the Timberwolves, stopping 33 of 35 shots.

On Monday, Matt Williams earned his second shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the Campbellton Tigers.

Casey Fox, Matt Green and Alex Lafreniere each scored while Lafreniere, Hunter McIntyre, Will Lafford, Aidan McFarland, Nick Snow and Alex Whynter added assists.
