Ramblers down 2-0 to Lumberjacks in best-of-seven series

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – Two games, and two double-overtime losses for the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers.

On Sunday, the Ramblers lost 6-5 in the second overtime to the South Shore Lumberjacks in Game 2 of their Maritime Hockey League South Division best-of-seven semi-final series in Bridgewater.

The loss comes after a 3-2 loss in the second overtime Friday night on home ice.

On Sunday, Logan O’Neil scored the game winner for Bridgewater at 2:34 into the second overtime frame.

On Friday, Christian Tsukamoto scored the game winner for Bridgewater at 37 seconds into double-overtime.

GAME 2

First Period

The first period in Bridgewater finished with the Lumberjacks up 2-1, with Caleb Rich scoring for the Ramblers on a power play near the midway mark of the first. Nick Snow assisted on the goal.

Second Period

South Shore went up 3-1 early in the second period, but then the Ramblers scored four goals to take a 5-3 lead at the end of the second period.

Matt Green scored two of those goals, with Casey Fox and Rich adding one each. Casey Fox, along with Alex Lafreniere, added two assists each, while Snow, Will Lafford, Cole Waugh, and Aidan McFarland added one assist each.

Third Period

The Lumberjacks battled back in the third period, score two goals, one of which was on the power play, making it a 5-5 game at the end of regulation.

Goaltending

Ramblers goaltender Matt Williams made 42 saves on 48 shots, and his teammates had 37 shots on Lumberjacks goaltender Ty Grant.

Attendance at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre Sunday night was 1,038.

GAME 1

Cole Waugh and Matt Green scored for the Ramblers in their 3-2 double-overtime loss to the Lumberjacks Friday night in Amherst. Alex Wynter and Rich assisted on the Waugh goal, and Hunter McIntyre assisted on Greens goal.

Goaltending

Williams played in net for the Ramblers, who outshot the Lumberjacks 43-35.

Attendance at Amherst Stadium was 1,150.

Upcoming Games

The Ramblers are back home for Game 3 Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

They return to Bridgewater for Game 4 Thursday night. Game 5, if necessary, is Saturday at Amherst Stadium; Game 6 is March 25 in Bridgewater; and Game 7 is March 27 in Amherst.

Game’s 4, 5, 6, and 7 start at 7 p.m.
