SPRINGHILL – The Pink Thunder from Springhill defeated Pictou County Lightning 46-44 to win the Basketball Nova Scotia Under 16 Girl’s Division 3 championship.
Erica MacAleese was named the player of the game for the Pink Thunder.
“We had really good chemistry most of the weekend. The girls played within themselves and worked hard,” coach Phil Scott said. “We struggled with scoring in the final game. Pictou gave us good pressure and made key timely shots. In the end, our defence was key. We were able to make our foul shots at the end of the game when they forced us to the line.”
The Pink Thunder opened with a 60-28 win over Amherst with Breanna Gabriel earning player of the game honours hile in their second game the Pink Thunder thumped the Cape Breton Magic 68-29. Emma Mattinson was player of the game.
In the semfinal game, the Pink Thunder defeated the Marauders 68-29 while the Lightning defeated Amherst 40-32.
Emma Mattinson was named to the tournament all-star team and Lucy Scott was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player.
