Oxford cruises to sixth consecutive NSSAF championship

OXFORD – Another championship banner is set to adorn the wall at the Oxford Regional Education Centre.

Bethany Warwick scored 27 points and Katy Baker added 20 as the OREC Golden Bears won the Nova Scotia Schools Athletics Federation Division 3 girl’s basketball banner with a 77-45 win over Cabot High in Pugwash on March 3.

Taylor Mattinson added 15 points for Oxford with Ashley Wheaton chipping in eight points, Mackenzie Mattinson scoring six and Kayonna Stevens adding two.

It’s the sixth consecutive championship for the team.

Oxford opened with a 77-40 win over the host Pugwash High Panthers as Bethany Warwick scored 30 points and Katy Baker added 15.

Also scoring for Oxford were Mackenzie Mattinson and Brianna Warwick with six points each, Gracie Woodland with four, Taylor Mattinson and Kelsy White with three each and Paige Oickle, Railyn Cann, Emma Galbraith, Keyonna Stevens and Ashley Weaton with two apiece.

Oxford earned a spot in the final with an 82-16 win over Halifax Grammar.

Katy Baker had 18 points for Oxford with Bethany Warwick scoring 13 and Mackenzie Mattinson adding 12.

Other scorers included Ashley Wheaton and Brianna Warwick with six points each, Kelsy White with five, Gracie Woodland, Emma Galbraith and Natalie Wood with four each, Keyonna Stevens and Taylor Mattinson with three, Paige Oickle and Railyn Cann with two apiece and Jazmine Eaton with one point.
