AMHERST – Five Spartans swimmers joined over 200 Age Group swimmers from across the province at a recent development meet hosted at Acadia University.
“This competition brought together swimmers at both the Junior and Senior qualified levels,” said coach Jan Matthews. “It can be easy for a small club to be overwhelmed by the numbers of swimmers on deck and in each event. But each of these athletes maintained their focus to put forth their best effort.”
Jordan Beaton recorded best times for each of his swims and achieved top ten ranking in the 100-metre breaststroke and 100-metre butterfly events.
Adam Bobadilla-Amaran earned personal best awards in the 100-metre breast, 100-metre back, 100-metre butterfly and 200-metre free events.
Newly qualified to compete at the Age Group level, Abbie Byrnes stepped up and swam best times in each of her events.
Lauren Millard recorded personal bests in four of her events, while Abbie Smith improved her times in the 200-metre free and 100-metre fly.
Millard, Amaran-Bobadilla, Smith and Beaton combined forces for a strong finish in the mixed medley relay event.
The Spartans train four afternoons a week at the Cumberland YMCA.
