Panthers win home invitational

PUGWASH – The Pugwash Panthers won the Windsor Salt senior boys basketball tournament with an 87-83 win over Prince Andrew High School in the championship game Saturday night in Pugwash.

Sam Wade led the Panthers in the championship game with 32 points, Ryan MacInnis scored 17 points, Alper Betoner, scored 15, Jayson Arsenault scored 12, Adam Blair scored eight, and Damon Taylor three.

The Panthers had several injured players, giving them only eight players in the championship game against 12 on Prince Andrew’s side of the court. The Panthers won three of the four games they played in the tournament, and are now 17-3 on the season.

The Panthers opened the seven-team tournament They started with an 82-75 loss to Hants East.

Patrick Liebman scored 26 points in the loss, Wade scored 20 points, Betoner scored 12 points, MacInnis scored 10 points, and Taylor scored three.

They went on to beat Annapolis West 84-48 and Fredericton High School 84-71.

Two weekends ago the Panthers were at Fredericton High School for the Maritime Invitational where they won a 24-team tournament.
