HALIFAX - A Nova Scotia lawyer who served on a panel that settled the province's complex offshore ownership dispute with Ottawa has died. Dara Gordon was a partner with Halifax-based law firm McInnes Cooper and served on its board of directors. In a message on its website, the firm said Gordon died Sunday after a brief battle with cancer. While working to resolve the federal-provincial Crown share dispute in 2008, Gordon recommended that Nova Scotia was entitled to a larger share of offshore royalties than the panel ultimately decided. Gordon was also a former head of the Nova Scotia Gaming Corp. and the Atlantic Lottery Corp. She lived in Nova Scotia's Gaspereau Valley with her husband, with whom she opened the Benjamin Bridge winery in 2000.
