AMHERST – Members of the Aerials Gymnastics Club compete at the provincial championships at the Titans Gymnastics and Trampoline Club in Dartmouth this weekend.
“They’ve been working hard to clean up their routines,” said Aerials coach Michelle Landry.
Fifteen girls are attending the tournament with several hoping to move onto the Atlantic Championships with Team Nova Scotia.
“Three girls have qualified to make Team Nova Scotia but it depends on their placings at the provincials as to whether or not they make the team,” said Landry.
This year saw many new gymnasts join the competitive team, so it will be the first provincials for many of the girls.
“I know they’re pretty excited about it and I know they worked really hard to get there.”
The older team members have been to provincials many years now.
“Emma (Sjanic) does really well on vault, Jesse (Landry) is really strong on bars, Imogen (Quinn) is good on floor, beam and vault but struggles on bars a little bit, and Kirsten is pretty good on all of them,” said Landry.
Correction: Last week’s Amherst News said Marissa LeBlanc finished 6th on vault, 7th on bars, 1st on beam, 7th on floor and 2nd overall at the March Break Invitational in Amherst. LeBlanc actually finished 6th on vault, 2nd on bars, 3rd on floor, and 3rd overall. She competes in the Tyro 4 Division.
