Feelin Friskie to take past success on the road in 2007

Feelin Friskie is feeling frisky again and owner Wayne Whebby of Dartmouth, N.S. is looking forward to another successful season with the four-year-old pacing stallion.

Last year Feelin Friskie won three of his nine starts and banked $736,862, taking a record of 1:49.1 while setting a stakes record in the $500,000 New Jersey Classic at The Meadowlands. He was a runner-up in the $1.5-million Pepsi North America Cup at Woodbine Raceway in Toronto.

Feelin Friskies sophomore season was cut short by soundness problems that sidelined him in July, but Whebby says the horse seems to have fully recovered.

He was out for a qualifying trip at Truro Raceway last Sunday and was an easy winner in 2:02 with Marc Whebby doing the driving. Despite making a break in stride in the first quarter, Feelin Frisky led throughout the mile.

Hes not used to racing in the daytime and jumped a shadow, explained Whebby of the horses break in stride.

Feelin Friskie will be out for another qualifier this Sunday at Truro and will probably make one more prep before being sent to Ontario to begin his 2007 season.

He has been entered in the $200,000 Molson Cup and Western Fair in London, Ont., and has a $300,000 series at Woodbine before returning to The Meadowlands.

The Whebby Stables also sent out Watta Hotshot in the same qualifier last Sunday and the three-year-old Artiscape colt finished fourth with Whebbys assistant, Robert Laffin, in the bike.

Last season as a rookie, Watta Hotshot won three of seven while banking more than $110,000. His biggest payday came after winning the $160,000 Lou Babic Memorial at Freehold Raceway.

Whata Hotshot has been kept eligible to this years North America Cup while his stablemate Olay Olay, a winner of more than $200,000 last year, is eligible to the Little Brown Jug.

PEI Horse Of Year

Clay Henry, who won the Atlantic Sires Stakes championship for three-year-old pacing colts last year, has been selected as the Prince Edward Island Horse of the Year for 2006. The gelded son of Arcane Hanover set a stakes record of 1:54.2 at Charlottetown Driving Park in winning the crown.

Clay Henry, who recently stepped to a new personal best of 1:53.2 at Georgian Downs in Ontario, was also selected as Pacer of the Year and Three-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year at the PEI awards banquet.

Another graduate of the Atlantic Sires Stakes program, Super Sidney C also boasts of a new record. Named after NHL scoring leader Sidney Crosbie, Super Sidney C won the open event at Plainridge Racecourse in Boston last week with a 1:53.1 decision.
