AMHERST – The district track and field championships are Monday and Tuesday in Stellarton.

“The team is very strong on the field and on the track,” said Michelle Stubbert, track and field coach at Amherst Regional High School, during outdoor training Wednesday afternoon.

There are close to 80 ARHS students on the team, and Stubbert says the relay teams are looking especially strong.

“The relays we just ran are provincial banner times already, so we’re ready, as long as everything works out for us.”

There are six coaches helping coach the ARHS athletes this year.

“We have a very strong coaching staff,” said Stubbert.

Students from E.B. Chandler Junior High School are also making the trip to Stellarton. They were also training Wednesday afternoon at ARHS.

“The team is feeling confident and we’re hoping to defend the regional banner,” said E.B. Chandler coach Peter Nixon.

Close to 40 E.B. Chandler students will compete at the districts.

The regional championships are May 25 and 25.
