BEDFORD (Staff) If all goes according to plan the Amherst Midget Selects will be coming home Sunday with the Nova Scotia championship, but coach Perry Milner is taking nothing for granted.
We know we have a team that can win it, but well have to take it game by game and get to the championship game, Milner said.
The Selects open the Baseball Nova Scotia Midget AA championship tournament in Bedford today at 3:30 p.m. when they face the Clarks Harbour Foggies while they also play the Glace Bay Miners on Saturday at noon.
Amherst will send Nick Remington to the mound today hoping to open the tournament with a win against what should be a tough Foggies squad, members of which won back to back bantam championships. Joining Remington on the pitching staff are Shane OByrne, Blaine Milner, Cody Sutton and Matt Bartley.
We have a solid team with a very strong infield, a quick outfield and a deep pitching staff, Milner said.
Sutton, OBryne, Bartley, Milner, Travis Davis and Justin Brown make a solid infield defence while Corey Skinner, Jordie Shaw, Nick Jackson, Brandon Weir, Jesse Lorette and Justin Rayworth make up an outfield that has speed.
The Selects, who defeated Stellarton to win the district title, played in the Bluenose League this past season and a win this weekend would propel them into the Atlantics in Summerside, P.E.I., over the Labour Day weekend.
This is the clubs second consecutive appearance at the provincials tournament.
Other teams vying for the provincial title are the Tri-County Rangers, Kentville Wildcats and Rawdon.
