Midget AA Athletics earn four wins in Cape Breton

AMHERST – The Amherst Athletics picked up four wins in Bluenose Midget AA Baseball League action last weekend in Cape Breton.

On Saturday, the Athletics opened with a 12-0 win over the New Waterford Dodgers with Brandon Hicks giving up just two hits over five innings of work while striking out eight and walking none.

Graden Chitty doubled and Mackenzie Comeau and Cole Stevens each singled twice. Cal Hoeg, Jackson Comeau, Jackson Colborne and Mike Farrell each singled once.

In the second game, Cal Hoeg doubled and singled, Brady Crowe singled twice and Jackson Comeau doubled in a 10-3 win.

Cole Stevens, Brandon Hicks, Zach Boudreau, Ryan Power and Mike Farrell each singled once.

Jackson Comeau pitched five innings to earn the win. He gave up three hits, walked three and struck out three. Brady Crowe pitched an inning and two-thirds, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out four.

On Sunday, the Athletics scored what would be the winning run in the top of the seventh inning in a 3-2 win over the Cape Breton Expos.

Cal Hoeg, Cole Stevens, Jackson Colborne, Zach Boudreau and Brandon Hicks pitched for Amherst. Hoeg gave up three hits in three innings of work. He gave up five walks and struck out five. Graden Chitty gave up one hit and struck out one in one inning with Mackenzie Comeau picking up the win with three innings of work. He gave up no hits, walked two and struck out one.

In Game 2, Amherst pounded out 18 hits in a 19-4 win. Cole Stevens hit a double and a triple, Graden Chitty, Mike Farrell and Jackson Colborne each singled and doubled, Brady Crowe singled three times, Ryan Power and Brandon  Hicks each doubled once and Zach Boudreau singled twice.  Mackenzie Comeau singled and Cal Hoeg tripled.

Cole Stevens earned the pitching win. In three innings, he gave up four hits, walked four and struck out one.  Graden Chitty pitched two innings, giving up no hits, walking none and striking out two.
