Two days after securing their last line of defence, the Halifax Wanderers locked down their top offensive threat.

The Canadian Premier League team announced on Thursday striker Akeem Garcia will return for a second season. The Trinidad and Tobago national team veteran re-signed with the Wanderers after leading them in scoring with seven goals in their inaugural season. The Wanderers committed to keeper Christian Oxner on Tuesday.

“It’s a good feeling,” Garcia said in a news release. "I’m excited and I just want to finish where I left off and score more goals and hopefully we can go for the title next year."

Garcia's speed up front and work ethic made him a favourite with the fans and head coach Stephen Hart.

“He made significant contributions and I’m happy he decided to return. Akeem’s willingness to run the channels and score goals is extremely important to us,” Hart said in a news release.

“I think it means everything to the club, there are no fans out there that won’t be happy. Akeem is so dangerous."
Garcia earned a call-up to the Trinidad and Tobago national team in October and is hopeful he will be named to the roster again next week for games against Anguilla, Ecuador and Honduras.

“The Trinidad and Tobago call-up was everything to do with Halifax Wanderers and it helped my game playing against better players, so I’m thankful to Halifax and the coaching staff,” Garcia said.
