Ramblers swept in weekend action by Yarmouth, Fredericton

FREDERICTON, N.B. — Declan MacEachern scored two goals as the Fredericton Red Wings defeated the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers 6-2 in Maritime Junior Hockey League action in Fredericton on Sunday.

Nathan Kelly and Ethan Stuckless each had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings while Liam Smith and Ryan O’Toole each scored once.

Robbie Burt scored both goals for Amherst with Bradley Dawe adding an assist.

Jack Grant earned the win in goal stopping 38 of 40 shots while Josh Ward and Mathias Savoie shared the goaltending duties for Amherst facing 37 shots.

On Saturday, the Yarmouth Mariners scored six unanswered goals en route to a 7-2 win over Amherst.

Sam Gillis scored three goals for the Mariners, who blew open a close game with four goals in the second period and added two more in the third.

Kurtis Lang, David Vaysberg, Michael Johnson and Jonathan Rees each scored once.

Caleb Rich and Jason Gallant scored for Amherst, which led 2-1 after one period, but trailed 5-2 after two.

Griffin Kelly earned the win in goal for Yarmouth while Josh Ward suffered the loss with Mathias Savoie also seeing action.

Amherst returns to action on Thursday when the Ramblers travel to Summerside to face the league-leading Western Capitals before concluding the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule on Friday night in Truro.

Following the weekend’s games, the Ramblers sit in fourth place in the Eastlink South Division with 29 points, only two up on fifth-place Truro. The Bearcats defeated Yarmouth on Friday night as well as the Valley Wildcats on Sunday.
