Intermediate baseball brought back to Amherst with a bang

AMHERST, N.S. – After a nine-year hiatus, Intermediate Baseball returned to Amherst with two big wins over the Truro Bearcats.

The Amherst Weston Athletics beat the Bearcats by scores of 7-1 and 10-5 at Robb’s Complex on July 7.

Game 1

In the first game of the doubleheader, Gus Tupper and Brady Davis each crossed home plate twice to give the Athletics four points, while Justin Morton, Logan Dowe, and Morgan Jobes came home once each.

Morton, Tupper, Davis and Dowe had two hits each, and Mats Stone had one hit, leading the Athletics with two RBI’s.

Adam MacAloney pitched for the Athletics, allowing one run on four hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.

Game 2

Amherst won the second game of the doubleheader by a score of 10-5.

Logan Dowe pitched the second game, allowing five runs to score off 11 hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

Morton and Andrew Skinner scored three times for the Athletics, Cole Stevens twice, and Mats Stone and his twin brother Nate Stone each crossed home plate once.

Morton, Skinner, Nate Stone and Jobes had two hits each, and Stevens, Davis, and Sutton each hit the ball once.

Nate Stone led the Athletics with three RBI’s.

Nate Stone, Morton and Skinner each hit one triple, Davis a double, while Morton had three stolen bases, and Stevens one stolen base.

Standings

The wins put the Athletics in the middle of the pack of the seven-team league, with 18 points and a record of 4-6.

Past Games

The Athletics played their first eight games of the season on the road, starting the season with 6-0 and 3-1 wins over the Bearcats. They then lost two games to the Windsor Knights by scores of 4-1 and 2-1, lost two games to the Noel Road Jays by scores of 5-0 and 3-1, and then they lost to the Sherose Island Schooners 5-3 and 8-7.

Upcoming Games

Amherst plays at home for the next four weekends.

On July 14 they host the Pictou County Albions, on July 21 they host the Windsor Knights, on Aug. 3, and then on Aug. 8, they host Sherose Island.
