Lions, Cubs earn opening night little league wins

AMHERST – Nolan McNally hit a long home run to left centrefield as the Lions defeated the Mixers 6-4 to open the 2018 Amherst Little League A system regular season on Monday night.

Kyler Edwards hit two singles for the Lions, who scored four runs in the fifth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit while Gregor Millard singled and doubled and Reece MacDonald and Connor Masters each singled once.

Mandel Nickerson doubled twice, Burke Beed and Aiden McBurnie each tripled and Hayden Crocket doubled for the Mixers.

Reece MacDonald and Nolan McNally pitched for the Lions, giving up five hits, walking two and striking out 13. Burke Beed, Mandel Nickerson and Aiden McBurnie pitched for the Mixers. They gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out 11.

On Foster Field, the Cumberland Paving Cubs defeated the Y’s Guys 21-4.

Jaxon Reynolds earned the pitching win giving up three hits, walking seven and striking out five. Jesse Goodwin and Ashton vanSnick pitched for the Y’s Guys. They gave up six hits, walked 16 and struck out seven.

Sawyer Harvey doubled twice and singled for the Cubs with Connor Hunter hitting a single and a double and Kieran Sears hitting a double. Will Allen hit a single.

Aiden McAloney tripled for the Y’s Guys with Chase Livingston hitting a single.
