SPRINGHILL - The Cumberland County Cool Blues just got a lot stronger.
The club's leading scorer the last two seasons, Cody Roach, ended a couple of months of speculation on Thursday announcing he is returning to Springhill for his third season with the club.
"It wasn't that tough a decision. I like it in Springhill. The fans are great and the organization is top notch,"?Roach said Thursday.
Roach is in Springhill for the third annual BluesFest celebration. He'll be joined by a number of other Blues returnees including Mark Rozak, who's flying in from Ontario for the weekend, and defencemen Justin Cortes and Nathan Lavigne.
After the Blues were upset by Antigonish in the second round of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs, there was speculation Roach would return to Newfoundland to play in Bay Roberts, which is hosting the Don Johnson Cup next April, or with the Pictou County Weeks Crushers of the MJAHL. Roach played with the?Crushers at the Fred Page Cup and Royal Bank Cup.
Roach said he plans to go to the Johnson Cup next season, but as a member of the Blues.
"We should have a really good team against this season. I?think we all have something to prove and have a bit of unfinished business,"?Roach said. "We want to go all the way this year."
Roach has been busy during the summer. Two weeks ago, he was a member of Team Canada that won the world Under-20 ball hockey championship at Mile One Stadium in St. John's.
He also won the all-Newfoundland title last weekend in Bishop's Falls, N.L.
Blues general manager Ron Reynolds is pleased to have his leading scorer back.
"Cody has been a key member of our club for a couple of seasons now. He brings a lot of offence to our hockey club and plays with an edge that frustrates his opponents,"?Reynolds said.
