Ramblers open season with win


AMHERST, N.S. – One game into the 2018-2019 Maritime Hockey League season, and the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers have a perfect record of 1-0.

The Ramblers opened their season Saturday night at Amherst Stadium with a 6-2 win over the Valley Wildcats.

First Period

The Ramblers took a 3-0 lead after the first period off goals from Will Lafford, Hunter McIntyre and Caleb Rich.

Jacob Myra assisted on the Lafford goal, Casey Fox and Alex LaFreniere assisted on the Rich goal, and McIintyre’s goal was unassisted.

Second Period

By 6:02 into the second period the Valley scored two goals, making it a 3-2 game, but Cole Darrach, Matt Green and McIntyre added three goals, giving their team the 6-2 win.

Dayne Chasse and Myra assisted on the Darrach goal, Aidan McFarland and Cole Waugh assisted on the Green goal, and Linden Namagoose and Dawson Grenier assisted on the McIntyre goal.

Goaltending

Matt Williams played in goal for the Ramblers, stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced, while his teammates had 41 shots on Valley goaltender Liam MacDonald.

Attendance

Game attendance was 925.

Upcoming games

On Thursday, the Ramblers are in Pictou County to play the Weeks Crushers, and on Saturday they’re home to the St. Stephen Aces.
