Ramblers lose in overtime to Mariners

AMHERST – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Yarmouth Mariners Saturday night at Amherst Stadium.

The Ramblers were up 3-1 going into the third period but the Mariners battle back and scored near the mid-way point of the third, and scored again with 36 seconds left in the game, tying the game 3-3 and forcing overtime.

Amherst had eight penalties in the game and Yarmouth 10. All three Yarmouth regulation time goals were scored on the power play, while the Ramblers were unable to capitalize with the extra man.

Kyle Bergh scored the winning goal for Yarmouth 41 seconds into the extra frame.

Jordan King and Brady Griffin-Hefford scored one goal and one assist each for the Ramblers, while Layton Parsons scored one goal, and Liam Conrad one assist.

Cody Porter played in net for the Ramblers. He stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced, and his teammates had 38 shots on Yarmouth goaltender Leif Hertz.

The Ramblers have won two games and lost two games in the month of December, and all four have been won and lost by one goal.

Also, all four games have seen the opposing team score late in the third period.

On Dec. 1, they beat the South Shore Lumberjacks 4-3 in a shootout in Lunenburg. The Lumberjacks scored with 12 seconds left in the game, forcing overtime.

On Dec. 2, they beat the St. Stephen Aces 4-3 in regulation time at Amherst Stadium. The Aces made the game close by scoring with 16 seconds left in the game.

On Dec. 9, they lost 5-4 to the Summerside Western Capitals in a shootout at Amherst Stadium. Summerside scored with 1:39 left in the game, forcing overtime.

On Saturday night Yarmouth scored with 36 seconds left in the game, and won it in overtime.

Standings

With 31 points, the Ramblers are in third place in the Eastlink South Division.

Yarmouth leads the division with 43 points, the Lumberjack have 39, the Truro Bearcats 29, the Valley Wildcats 22, and the Pictou County Weeks Crushers have 22 points.

Upcoming Games

The Ramblers are off next week but are on the road to the Valley Wildcats on Dec. 29, and return home two days later, Dec. 31, to host the Weeks Crushers at 2 p.m. at Amherst Stadium.
