AMHERST - The CIBC Wood Gundy Fundy Phantoms split a pair of Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League games on the weekend.
On Friday, Fundy defeated Cumberland County rival North Shore Storm 5-3 at the Amherst Stadium, with the Phantoms scoring four power-play goals.
"They felt it was important to own the corners, but we felt it was more important to own the scoreboard," said Phantoms coach Steve LeBlanc.
Coulton Tower, Devin Nelson, Tyler Gould, Travis Davis and Steve Fillmore scored for Fundy. Phantoms goalie Jesse Ogden stopped 31 shots.
Blaine Milner, Brad McCormick and Jason Fauvelle answered for the Storm. Jeff Matthews and Pat Darragh split time in the North Shore net, making 29 saves.
The next night, the Phantoms travelled to Windsor and lost 7-1 to the Avon River Rats. Myles Budd spoiled the shutout bid with 3:24 left in the third period. Ogden made 28 saves.
The Phantoms are in Musquodoboit Harbour for their next game, Saturday at 7 p.m., against the Eastern Shore Mariners. Fundy's next home game is Nov. 8 against Avon at 3 p.m., in Amherst.
