SPRINGHILL - Trevor MacKenzie of the East Hants Penguins scored 11 goals and added seven assists in four games at the Don Johnson Cup and was named the tournaments top forward and its most valuable player.

The Penguins were well represented when the awards were passed out with rearguard Jamie Klie picking up top defenceman honours and Matt Bracegirdle being selected as the top goalie.

Josh Manelli of the Central Junior Cataracts was named the tournaments most sportsmanlike player.

The Cumberland County Cool Blues placed three players on the all-star team including goalie Chris Fearneley, defenceman Joel Stronge and forward Mark Rozak.

Forward Brodie Sanderson and defenceman Brett Vessey of the Kensington Vipers and forward Patrick Sweeney of East Hants were also selected to the team.

Former NHL forward Mac Davis talked to the players and remembering their junior careers and talked about the importance of teamwork in the dressing room, on the ice and in life.

Remember these days because they could be the best days of your life, said Davis, who played in the NHL with Detroit and Buffalo and is a member of the Rochester Americans hall of fame.

Davis also encouraged the players to remember its just a game and while they should compete and play hard, winning is not everything.

Go out there and compete, but more importantly go out there and do your best, said Davis, urging the players to thank those around them whove made it possible for them to play.
