Blues lose two to Miners

SPRINGHILL, N.S. – The Cumberland County Blues lost both of their home games against the Sydney Jr. Miners this weekend in Springhill, 4-1 on Friday and 7-4 on Saturday at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.

“The bounces didn’t go our way on Friday but we had some good chances today,” Blues coach Wayne MacKenzie said following Saturday’s game. “We were a little slow out of the gate and they scored three quick ones on us but the boys never game up and got back in the game.”

Friday

In the first game of the two-game home-stand Brody Deegan put the Ramblers up 1-0 with seven seconds left in the first period. Rueben MacKenzie and Jacob Estabrooks assisted on the goal.

The Miners then scored two goals in the second period and two goals in the third period, winning the game 4-1.

Zack Parris stopped 4 of the 44 shots he faced, and the Blues had 29 shots on Miners goaltender Kaine Drake.

Saturday

Game 2 against the Miners ended up with the Blues losing 7-4.

The Miners took a 3-0 lead in the first period before Yannick LeBlanc and Deegan made it a 3-2 game. MacKenzie assisted on the LeBlanc goal, and LeBlanc and MacKenzie assisted on the Deegan’s goal.

The Miners went up 5-2 in the second period, and Brandon Greeno made it a 5-3 game with an assist from Landen Clarke.

The Miners scored two goals in the third period, with the lone Blues goal being scored by Estabrooks off a pass from LeBlanc, and the game-ending 7-4 for the Miners.

Sam Tower faced a total of 26 shots on the afternoon and Miners goaltender Seth Crowe faced 22 shots.

Standings

With the losses, the Blues stand at the bottom of the Sid Rowe Division with zero points and a record of 0-3.

Upcoming Games

The Blues are on the road next weekend for two games. On Friday they’re in Port Hawkesbury to play the Strait Pirates, and then on Saturday they’re in Sydney to play the Miners.
