Amherst’s Melanson scores big at Canada Winter Games

Finishes atop Nova Scotia men’s hockey leaderboard, and among hockey elite

AMHERST, N.S – As the point leader on Nova Scotia’s men’s hockey team at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta there is little doubt Amherst’s Jacob Melanson caught the eye of many hockey scouts.

The 15-year-old finished the tournament atop the Nova Scotia leaderboard with seven points, four goals and three assists, in six games.

The men’s team went 2-4 and finished sixth at the games with a 7-5 loss to Manitoba in the fifth-place game.

Quebec won the Canada Winter Games title with a 4-3 win over Ontario.

The 2019 Canada Winter Games end March 3.

Melanson’s scoring summary:

Nova Scotia vs. Manitoba (Feb. 22) – Melanson scores one goal and two assists in 7-5 loss.
