AMHERST – Only two days into December and the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers have two wins.
On Friday the Ramblers were on the road where they beat the South Shore Lumberjacks 4-3 in a shootout.
On Saturday at home they beat the St. Stephen Aces 4-3 in regulation time.
Ramblers vs. Aces
First Period
Alex Beaulieu put the Ramblers up 1-0 at 707 into the first period with assists from Brock McEwen and Felix LeBlanc.
Second Period
St. Stephen took a 2-1 lead in the second period after scoring at 8:56 and 9:54 into the second period. The first goal was scored on the power play and the second goal on a penalty shot.
Jordan King tied it up 2-2 at 12:08 into the second period with a power play goal. Dawson Grenier and LeBlanc.
Third Period
The Ramblers took a 3-2 lead at 2:06 into the third period when Jacob Myra scored off a pass from Thomas Ashe.
Brock McEwen scored an unassisted empty-netter with 50 seconds left in the game, taking a 4-2 lead, but the Aces scored with 16 seconds left in the game, making it a 4-3 game. That’s how it ended.
Goaltending
Cody Porter stopped 26 of 29 shots in net for the Ramblers, and his teammates had 30 shots on the Aces Jack Grant.
Game Attenedance
Attendance at Amherst Stadium was 703.
Ramblers vs. Lumberjacks
First Period
Jordan King gave the Ramblers a 1-0 lead at 15:32 into the first period in Lunenburg on Friday night off passes from Ashe and Brady Griffin-Hefford.
The Lumberjacks scored a little over one minute later, and the period ended tied 1-1.
Second Period
South Shore scored the only goal in the second period, taking a 2-1 lead.
Third Period
The Ramblers went up 3-1 in the third period off goals from Cole Waugh and King. Will Lafford and King assisted on Waugh’s goal at 7:21 into the frame, and Grenier and Beaulieu scored on Kings’ goal at the 11:52 mark.
The Lumberjacks tied the game with 12 seconds left in the game.
Shootout
Layton Parsons scored the only goal in the shootout, giving the Ramblers the win.
Goaltending
Cody Porter stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced, and the Ramblers peppered the Lumberjacks Conor McCollum with 32 shots.
Attendance
Attendance at the Lunenburg County Life Style Centre was 736.
Standings
The two wins move Amherst into third place in the Eastlink South Division with 29 points. The Lumberjacks lead the division with 37 points, and the Yarmouth Mariners have 36 points.
MHL Point Leaders
Jordan King is second on the MHL point board with 35 points, 14 goals and 21 assists in 22 games.
Liam Conrad is in 16th place on the leaderboard with 12 goals and 10 assists, and Griffin-Hefford is 20th with nine goals and 12 assists.
Upcoming Games
The Ramblers have two games before the Christmas break.
Next Saturday they host the Summerside Western Capitals, and the following Saturday they host the Yarmouth Mariners. Both games start at 7 p.m. at Amherst Stadium.
