Cougars finish CBWRHL season with wins over Tigers, Lions

AMHERST, N.S. – The final two games of the inaugural the Cross-Border Women’s Recreational Hockey League were recently played in Amherst

The Wayne Butch Auto Sales Cougars won both games, getting by the Archway Insurance Tigers by a score of 7-4, and the Maltby Sports Lions 9-4.

Goal scorers for the Cougars were Alysha Manderson with a hat trick, Alyson Pickard with two, and Karla Fulton and Carole Gautreau finding the back of the net with one goal each.

Assists were scored by Casie Skidmore, Wanda “Slapshot” Jewers, Dana Carr, Kelly Milner and Pickard.

Danielle Robichaud had two goals for the Tigers, the other two came off the sticks of Lynn MacKay and Jasmine Richard. Assists were scored by Andrea Faryniuk, Leslie Belyea and Stacey Webb.

The winning goaltender was Patty “Pokecheck” WIlligar, while Kat Aube guarded the crease for the Tigers.

The Cougars battle the Maltby Sports Lions to a 9-4 win.

Pickard led the team with four goals, while Manderson got herself another hat trick. Carr and Babineau also had one goal each.

Manderson, Carr, Jewers, Gautreau, and Skidmore had the assists on the goals.

The Lions goals came from Melissa Corvec, Emily Wainwright and Lynn Mackay. Whitney Milner had an assist.

Willigar was in nets for the win, while Taylor “Toonie” Ripley kept her team in the game playing in net for the Lions.

This brings the first season of the CBWRHL to an end.

The league thanks their dedicated referees, sponsors, players and fans for helping launch the league into existence.

The league will begin again in September.
