AMHERST, N.S. – Savanah Cobbett won gold at the 2018 Skate Canada Sectionals figure skating competition at Amherst Stadium over the weekend.

She said she was surprised she won.

“I think a lot of training, a lot of effort, confidence, and focusing on my performance made it feel better, and skating at home helped too,” said the 10-year-old.

Cobbett won in the Pre-Juvenile, Women’s Under-11 category, and she was the only figure skater from the Amherst Skating Club represented at the competition.

The Sectionals competition attracted 103 skaters from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI.

Cobbett has been figure skating since she was two-years-old.
