Bulldogs take bite out of Blues

SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues lost 9-3 to the Antigonish Bulldogs Friday night in Springhill.

The Bulldogs took a 5-0 lead in the first period, but the Blues came out in the second period and made it a 5-2 game before Antigonish scored near the midway mark of the second to take a 6-2 lead.

Cole Jacquard and Nathan Stone scored for the Blues Kurtis Langille and Alexander Clark assisted on the Jacquard goal and Taylor Smith and Jordan Harrison assisted on the Stone goal.

The Bulldogs went up 7-2 in the third when Alex Griffiths made it a 7-3 game off passes from Chad Miller and Jacquard.

The Bulldogs scored two late-game goals to win 9-3.

Trent Wilkie played in net for the Blues. He stopped 34 of the 43 shots he faced, and his teammates had 28 shots on Bulldogs goaltender Charles Jensen.

The Blues are back home Friday to host the Brookfield Elks, the only team they beat this season. The Blues won 3-2 in overtime in Brookfield on Oct. 12.

The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
