SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues lost two games over the weekend.
On Friday at home they lost 9-3 to the Sackville Blazers, and then on Sunday they lost 8-5 on the road in Antigonish to the Bulldogs
Blues vs. Bulldogs
First Period
The Blues opened the scoring Sunday against the Bulldogs, taking a 1-0 lead a little over five minutes into the first period.
Hayden Boutilier score with helpers from Keegan Marcott and Alex Griffiths.
The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1, but Reuben MacKenzie put the Blues up 2-1 on an unassisted goal with 138 left in the first.
Second Period
Antigonish tied the game 2-2 less than two minutes into the second period, but the Blues went ahead a third time in the game when Marcott scored an unassisted goal with 15:10 left in the second.
The Bulldogs responded with two goals of their own and took a 4-3 lead into the dressing room at the end of the second period.
Third Period
The Blues tied the game 4-4 when Boutilier scored his second of the night with an assist from Kansas Hart.
The Bulldogs scored three goals, taking a 7-4 lead, when MacKenzie scored his second of the night off assists rom Madison Colford and Brody Deegan.
The Bulldogs added and empty net goal with 48 seconds left in the game.
Goaltending
Trent Wilkie played in goal for the Blues. He stopped 28 of the 35 shots he faced, and his teammates had 20 shots on the Bulldogs net.
Blues vs. Blazers
The Blues lost 9-3 to the Blazers Friday night in Springhill.
The Blazers took a 1-0 lead after the first period, and a 6-0 lead after the second period.
Third Period
The Blazers went up 7-0 in the third period, but Griffiths broke the Blazers shutout when he scored with 7:52 in the third off passes from Chad Miller and Marcott.
The Blazers scored two more goals, taking a 9-1 lead, when Brody Deegan and Kolby Grant scored two late goals, making it a 9-3 game.
Deegan scored with 1:11 left in the game off a pass from O’Donnell, and Grant’s goal was assisted by Landen Clarke with 50 seconds left in the game.
Goaltending
Jaxson Maloney played in net for the first two periods, stopping 20 of 26 shots, and Wilkie stopped four of the seven shots he faced in the third period.
Upcoming Games
The Blues are on the road to East Hants to play the Penguins on Friday, and return home Sunday for a 7:30 contest against the Antigonish Bulldogs.
