AMHERST – Burke Beed threw a two-hitter as the Mixers defeated the Lions 4-1 to claim the opening game of the Amherst Little League Baseball A system final series on Monday night.

Beed surrendered three walks and struck out 14 while Reece MacDonald was equally effective for the Lions, giving up just four hits, walking none and striking out 11.

Beed hit a pair of doubles for the Mixers with Mandel Nickerson and Nate Atkinson each hitting a single.

Gregor Millard doubled and Kyler Edwards singled for the Lions.

Game 2 of the best-of-five series goes Wednesday.

In the consolation series, the Carters Cresting Cubs defeated the Y’s Guys 14-9.

Jaxon Reynolds and Sawyer Harvey pitched for the Cubs, giving up nine hits, walking seven and striking out 12. Caleb Oulton, Ashton VanSnick and Jesse Goodwin pitched for the Y’s guys. They gave up six hits, walked 18 and struck out nine.

Reynolds doubled three times and singled for the Cubs with Ryan Wilson and Talan Rose each hitting a single.

Oulton doubled twice and Aaden McAloney singled twice for the Y’s Guys with Goodwin, Nick Atkinson and Mason Sloan each hitting a single. Goodwin also tripled.

The second game of the best-of-three consolation final goes Wednesday.
