AMHERST  John Zompetti banged out a triple and Mike Yates, Kyle Carlson and Isaac Hershon each doubled once as Marlboro rode the one-hit pitching of Nick De La Cruz to a 2-0 win over New Glasgow and the championship at the 43rd Annual David Maltby Memorial Little League Baseball Tournament here Monday.

Its the second consecutive David Maltby Memorial championship for the Massachusetts squad, who went unbeaten in the eight-team tournament that featured four teams from the United States.

De La Cruz walked only one batter and struck out six to pick up the complete game victory while he helped his cause with an RBI single in the first inning. He also scored an insurance run in the fourth.

Allister Mason was equally as strong for New Glasgow before being relieved by Craig Murray in the fifth. They gave up five hits, walked one and struck out eight.

Murray had the lone New Glasgow hit.

Following the title game, Tommy Ryan of Marlboro was named the tournament most valuable player.

In the consolation final, played earlier Monday, Danny Cacciatore threw a no-hitter as the Waltham Little Nippers defeated Sydney 10-0. He gave up two walks and struck out 12. Matt Ball, Tyler Pyke, Josh Pentecost and Sam Clemens pitched for Sydney. They gave up 12 hits, walked seven and struck out six.

Louis Santa Maria had three singles for Waltham while Peter Hersey had two singles and a double and Manny Bautista singled and doubled.

Marlboro moved into the final with a 12-7 win over Sydney in one semifinal on Sunday while New Glasgow scored three runs late to edge Waltham 6-4 in the other.

In other games, Waltham defeated Midland 13-1, Lower Sackville defeated New Glasgow 6-4, Marlboro defeated Blackstone, Mass. 17-1, Blackstone lost 8-7 to New Glasgow, Waltham defeated Sydney 7-2, Marlboro defeated Lower Sackville 14-0, Sydney edged Midland 9-6, Marlboro defeated New Glasgow 7-0 and Blackstone edged Lower Sackville 8-7.

Amherst went 2-1 including a 7-5 win over Midland and a 4-3 extra-inning win over Waltham before losing 17-9 to Sydney.
