AMHERST, N.S. – The first night of the 2018 Amherst Little League playoffs had the regular-season, pennant winning, Casey Concrete Mixers shutting out the Carters Cresting Cubs 3-0, and the Lions beating the Y’s Guys 21 to 3.

The best-of-three, first round, playoff game saw Burke Beed pitching a no-hitter in the win for the Mixers, striking out 17 batters, while giving up no hits and no walks.

Bead scored one RBI off one double and one single, and Mandel Nickerson scored two RBI’s with two singles.

Kieran Sears pitched for the Cubs.

Sears struck out 12 batters, while giving up four hits and two walks.

Lions vs. Y’s Guys

Kyler Edwards pitched three innings for the Lions, striking out six batters, and giving up three hits and four walks in their 21-3 win over the Y’s Guys.

Gregor Millard pitched 2.5 innings, striking out seven batters, and giving up two walks and two hits.

Edwards hit a triple and a single, Millard one single, Reece MacDonald two doubles and one single, and Austin Dickie and Connor Masters hit one single each. Edwards, Millard and MacDonald scored three RBI’s each.

Jessie Goodwin and Ashton VanSnick pitched for the Y’s Guys. Goodwin struck out three batters, and gave up four hits and nine walks. VanSnick struck out one batter, and gave up six hits and our walks.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series starts Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
