OXFORD, N.S. – Katy Baker scored more than 700 points this basketball season, surpassing the 1,000 point mark with the Oxford Regional Education Centre Golden Bears.

“It felt really good to score 1,000 points” said Baker. “My coach told me at the beginning of the year that I had three hundred and something points, and I ended up getting 700 points this year.”

Her third year as a Bear, the 16-year-old, Grade 11 student says she had much more floor-time this season than in her first two seasons.

“That made a difference, and I have a lot more confidence in my shot this year than I did last year.”

Besides hitting the 1,000 point mark, Baker also set a new OREC scoring record.

“I set a new school record for most points in a game,” said Bakers. “I score 54 points in a game in PEI.”

Baker has her sights set on reaching another milestone next year.

“I’ll work towards my 2,000 points for next year,” said Baker. “We have a plaque in our school and a couple girls have done it.”
