Amherst overcomes 14-point gap to win Archway Insurance Invitational

AMHERST, N.S. – AMBA Amos overcame a 14-point deficit to defeat the Moncton Hawks 46-42 in the championship game of the Archway Insurance Under-14 Boy’s Basketball Tournament on Dec. 30.

Trailing 23-15 going into the second half, the Amos squad scored 15 points in the third quarter and added 16 in the fourth while holding the Moncton squad to 19 points in the second half.

Bo Vandewiel scored a trio of three-pointers to pace the second half rally while Tylor Milner had 18 points, using his size under the hoop to out-rebound Moncton defenders.

Luke Allen scored six points, Jasper Bushen had three points, Nathan Moore, Mischa Fainshtein and Nate Hampel each had two and Jay Amos had one.

In the third-place game, the Havoc from East Hants edge AMBA Reid 34-30, scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter.

The two teams were tied at 16 at the half.

Ben Robson had 12 points to lead the Havoc while Jeremy Harnish added 10 and Grayson Cassis added five points.

Jesse Goodwin and Dillon MacLeod each scored five for Amherst with Kirkland Porter and Jackson Reid each scored four, Jase Cousins and Isiah Fortune each had three and Mason Morse and Ashton Wilcox each had two.

In what was a preview of the final, Anikin Bouwens scored 12 points and Tylor Milner scored 10 as AMBA Amos defeated Moncton 46-28.

Luke Allen had five points, Kaden Allen and Nate Hampel each scored four, Bo Vandewiel scored three and Nathan Moore and Jasper Bushen each had two.

Ryan Bowers and Arne Lennox each had six for Moncton.

AMBA Amos defeated East Hants 45-36 with Tylor Milner scoring 13 points, Nate Hampel adding eight, Bo Vandewiel and Anikin Bouwens each scoring six, Luke Allen added five, Kaden Allen had three, and Jay Amos and Lucas Maxted each scored two.

Ben Robson had 11 for East Hants, Grayson Cassis had 10 and Jeremy Harnish had six.

Mason Morse had 17 points as AMBA Reid defeated Pictou 39-37.

Jesse Goodwin had nine points, Jase Cousins had four, Dillon MacLeod had three and Mason Porter, Jackson Reid and Gregor Millard each had two.

Braeden McKay had nine points for Pictou County and Brandon MacPherson had eight. Braydon George added five.

AMBA Reid lost 49-44 to Moncton

Ashton Wilcox scored 11 and Dillon MacLeod and Jesse Goodwin each had nine points for Amherst. Mason Morse had six points and Jase Cousins each had four points.
