Amherst Athletics win 15U Tier 1 A baseball championship

LIVERPOOL, N.S. — The Amherst Lions Athletics scored three times in the fourth inning to blow open a close game and defeat the Glace Bay Antonians 9-3 to win the Baseball Nova Scotia 15U Tier 1 Bantam A Championship on Sept. 1 in Liverpool.

Declan LeBlanc went the distance for Amherst to earn the win giving up five hits, walking one and striking out seven.

Burke Beed hit a pair of singles for Amherst while Dylan Mitton, Mattix McBurnie, Declan LeBlanc and Kalen Burke each singled once.

Amherst moved into the final with a 12-1 win over the Hammonds Plains A’s.

Brayden Stevens and Dylan Mitton each singled and doubled and Declan LeBlanc singled twice for Amherst with Ty Beed hitting a double and Brady Gill, Kalen Burke and Burke Beed each hitting a single.

Burke Beed pitched for Amherst giving up just one hit, walking three and striking out 10.

The Athletics opened the eight-team tournament on Aug. 30 with a 17-1 win over Cole Harbour as Burke Beed, Nate Campbell and Mattix McBurnie combined to throw a one-hitter while giving up two walks and striking out eight.

Ty Beed doubled and singled and Dylan Mitton singled twice for Amherst with Kalen Burke, Burke Beed, Nate Campbell, Mattix McBurnie, Brayden Stevens and Brady Gill each hitting singles.

In their second game, the Athletics defeated the Clark’s Harbour Foggies 16-1 with Declan LeBlanc and Nate Campbell each pitching. They gave up three hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Burke Beed singled twice for Amherst with Declan LeBlanc and Ty Beed each hitting doubles and Mattix McBurnie, Brayden Stevens, Evan Legere, Ryder Codling and Brady Gill each singling once.

The Athletics defeated Liverpool 11-3 in their final round robin game with Avery Smith, Kalen Burke and Brayden Stevens pitching. They gave up five hits, walked four and struck out 12.

Ryder Codling tripled in the game and Evan Legere hit two singles. Kalen Burke doubled and Declan LeBlanc, Ty Beed, Nate Campbell and Mattix McBurnie each singled once.
