Clean water anyone?

Although the $1,064,000 cost is equally funded by the federal government, the province and the municipality, it will still cost each property owner $4,054 whether they connect to the water service or not.
The vast majority of residents affected by the extension were not consulted and only found out after it was approved in February. Very few property owners water was tested; the municipality only assumed they had bad water. When the residents found out about the unneeded water extension many were livid.
Property owners were then contacted to complete a survey by a fellow resident regarding the desire for water services with 85 per cent responding against the water extension as they already had good well water. Many letters and presentations to council over the past few months illustrating the folly of such a bad decision of extending water services by the municipality was ignored.

Let’s assume that the number is at 10 as not all of the property owners responded to the survey and some seasonal owners could not be reached, then the average cost is over $100,000 per property connecting to the municipal water service.
So property owners in Cumberland County who feel they may have low quality of water should contact their local council member as it seems the county is prepared to spend over a $100,000 per home to help with clean and safe drinking water.
Apparently sophisticated reverse osmosis water systems that only cost $2,000 per home are not good enough as property owners might forget to clean the filter once a year. If you don’t get anywhere with your council member, you should contact the county warden, Allison Gillis as Mr. Gillis led and pushed the municipal water extension to the rural property owners of Pugwash who did not need or want the water extension.
