William Robert Maddison

William Robert Maddison
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Robert Maddison (Bill) on March 11, 2018, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Shirley; parents James Edward and Aggietta (MacPherson) Maddison, and younger brother Joseph Gravin. Bill was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia on August 1, 1933. After completing his high school education he went on to become a welder for Dosco. When the coal mines shut down after two terrible disasters, Bill moved to Lantz, Nova Scotia where he worked for Shaw Brick until his move to Port Alberni where he worked for Sproat Lake Division until his retirement. Bill and Shirley spent many summers at their cottage on the shore of the Northumberland Strait visiting with friends and relatives. After retirement, he spent many mornings at the Alberni Golf Club. During their summers in Nova Scotia, Bill could be found many mornings having coffee at a local garage in Pugwash visiting with the colourful locals. Bill is survived by his son Michael James (Michelle), grandson Mason, sister Elaine (Robert) Allen; sister-in-law Barbara Moore in Nova Scotia, special friend Warrenn Sawyer who spent many hours by his side, as well as several nieces and nephews both in BC and Nova Scotia. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Home Support and Home Care workers, Dr. Hermann Nell and the staff at West Coast General Hospital for all the wonderful care they provided to Bill. No service as per Bill’s request. A family gathering will take place at a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca.
