It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Warren Hilton Spence, age 94, of Amherst. Warren passed away at home on Sunday, May 27, 2018. Born in Springhill, NS, he was a son of the late Arthur and Jessie (Johnson) Spence. Warren began work in the Springhill Coal Mine, then spent 30 years with Cumberland Equipment as a Mechanic and Auto Body man. He moved on to 8 years at Springhill Institution teaching Auto Body, and continued teaching at the Springhill Vocational School until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. He enjoyed time at the camp and spending time with his family and friends. He was a past member of the Cumberland Car Club, and loved sharing his passion and knowledge of antique cars, his pride being a fully restored 1938 Chevrolet. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 69 years, Audrey (Smith), Amherst; Alan (Michelle Lowther), Amherst; 2 granddaughters Andria (Andrew) Leaman, Dorchester, NB, and Emily Spence, Dieppe, NB. He was predeceased by his son Ross Warren Spence; brothers Conrad and Darrell. Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place in the Amherst Cemetery on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 4 pm, Rev. Byron Corkum officiating.
