MacTAVISH, Shirley Olive It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Olive MacTavish age 82 of Pugwash, formerly of Amherst on Friday September 20, 2019 at the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash NS. Born in Hartland, NB, she was a daughter of the late George and Eva (Trevor) Hay. Shirley worked in the General Office of Eatons in Moncton, NB and the New Brunswick Telephone Company in Moncton and Newcastle. She was an ardent member of Christ Anglican Church, Amherst and the A.C.W., a member of Britannia Chapter #18 order of the Eastern Star, Amherst receiving her Life Membership in 2015, a former member of the Lioness Club and the Ladies Curling Club. Shirley was a long-time volunteer of the Canadian Diabetic Association and the Liberal Association. Shirley is survived by one daughter, Lois (Danny) Wheaton, Sackville NB; grandson, Evan; granddaughter, Katelyn (Hayden McNamara); one sister, Dorothy Chabot; special niece, Ruth Chabot of Sundridge, ON; sister-in-laws, Shirley Clarke and Linda (David) Tripp; brother in-law, Ken MacTavish of Riverview NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ian Dale and one brother, Charles George. The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash for their continuing care during Shirley’s stay. An Eastern Star Service will begin at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday September 25, 2019 followed by a celebration of Shirley’s life at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 5 Lawrence Street, Amherst, NS, with The Rev. Charlotte Ross and The Rev. Will Ferrey officiating. Interment will take place following the service in the Christ Church Parish Cemetery followed by a reception in the Christ Church Parish Hall. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Christ Church, East Cumberland Lodge, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society.
