Percy A. Wheaton

WHEATON, Percy A. Percy A. Wheaton, 83 years of age, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Joggins, he was a son of the late Perley and Julia (Legere) Wheaton. Percy was a member of the Amherst Fire Department for over 35 years reaching the rank of Captain. Percy served in the Canadian Reserves and was a member of the First Battalion Nova Scotia Highlanders. He was active in sports, he enjoyed darts, curling, baseball & bowling. Percy had a sharp mind and never forgot a face or name. Percy was heavily involved with Muscular Dystrophy over the years. Percy will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; son, Michael (Peggy) of Sackville, NB, Shawn of Amherst, NS, Kim Wheaton (Chris) of Brookdale, Kathy Chapman (Vaughan) of Hastings, NS; grandchildren, Nicole (Domenic), Cari (Jeremy), Matthew (Emily), Mark (Vanessa), Jessica (Anthony); great-grandchildren, Willow and Wilder; sister, Anna McClary of River Hebert, NS; brother, Darrell (Hilda) of River Hebert, NS; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sons, Timmy and Todd; a brother, Archie; brother-in-law, Earl ‘Bunn’ McClary. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). No visitation by request. A Celebration of Percy's life will be held at a later date. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
