It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Pearl Joyce (Gouchie) O’Brien, age 88 of Amherst, NS. Pearl slipped away peacefully at Gables Lodge, Amherst, on March 1, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Amherst, NS on February 20, 1931, she was the oldest daughter of the late Osborne and Bessie (Weeks) Gouchie. She enjoyed her summers at the Amherst Shore cottage, playing cards, seniors bus trips, yard sales, and keeping active by walking, bowling and line dancing at the Y. She was a member of the 50 Plus Club of Amherst and also Holy Family Parish and the CWL. She will be sadly missed by her only daughter Bernadette, Amherst, NS; sons Patrick (Sheila), Bedford, NS, Michael (Edith), Amherst, NS, and Steven (Paula), Saint John, NB; grandchildren Shawn (Jen Boudreau), Colleen (Kyle Weagle), Gregory (Julianna Chiu), Timothy, Mitchell and Katherine; sisters Mary (Rod) Embree, Amherst, NS, Ruth (Jimmy) LeBlanc, River Hebert, NS, and Rose Kay (Wendell McLean),Sackville, NB; brothers Lawrence (Peggy), James (Joyce Fraser), and Mark, all of Amherst, NS; many nieces and nephews, extended family and close friends. Besides her parents, Pearl was predeceased by her husband Aurel, son Robert, brother Harry, sisters in law Ruth and Gail Gouchie. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St, Amherst, NS where visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm with parish prayers taking place at 3 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2019. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, Amherst, on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 11 am, Father Craig Christenson officiating. Burial will take place beside her husband in the Maccan Cemetery in the spring. Those wishing to donate in memory of our mom may do so to the IWK Children’s Hospital, the Cumberland VON, or the charity of your choice.
