Laurie, Joanne C., 58 years of age, of Springhill, passed away peacefully at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre surrounded by her loving family and friends on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, she was the daughter of Rosette and Garnet Mattinson, Oxford, NS. Joanne enjoyed spending time at her cottage, also known as her “Happy Place” in Five Islands. She shared a passion with her husband Joe cruising on various cruise ships throughout the Caribbean. Anyone who knew Joanne, knew her compassion for all animals and especially her own. In addition to her parents Joanne is survived by her husband Joe of 33 years, Springhill; children Jennifer (Barclay Melanson), Nappan, Steven, British Columbia; three grandchildren, Jaden, Brooklyn, Truro, NS and Keaton Melanson, Nappan; brothers Rick (April), Dartmouth, NS, David (Jane), Oxford, NS, Mike (Kim), Halifax, NS; sister Mary Ann Mattinson, Oxford, NS; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Joanne was predeceased by brother Bobby Mattinson. She was also predeceased by her two beloved fur babies Nikki-Bear and Dusty and survived by her fur baby Quaker. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm. An evening prayer service led by Clare Canning will take place at 8 pm. Her Funeral Liturgy of the Word will be held from St. John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Springhill, on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10 am, Deacon Howard Gotell officiating. Burial will be held in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery at a later date. Joanne’s family wishes to offer special thanks to Dr. Faryniak and Dr. Bobadilla, all the nurses on the second floor, and in the ICU, and her special friends Cheryl Little (Ellis), Ruby Gordon (Hannah), Audrey Mattinson and Robin MacLeod for their dedication and care shown to Joanne.
